Opting for a greener life has become an essential necessity in modern life. The consequences of global warming are threatening the whole world warning us of irreparable disasters. Greening our life does not require any major sacrifices from our part. It means that we have to make only a few small changes and use things like water and electricity
1) Save Energy in Heating System
By reducing the energy usage at home without impacting our comfort can do a lot. Cooling and heating system in our house consumes a great deal of energy. Why should we use it even when we are not at home? We can program it by thermostat controls to our comfort level when we are at home. We can also use the natural resources available. Shading the windows can do a lot in the heating system since darker colors absorb more heat than lighter colors.

We can minimize energy consumption by using qualified fluorescent light bulbs, particularly in places that are lit most frequently and we can save more energy. We can change many of our household appliances that contribute to all sorts of ozone-destroying, environment-unfriendly activities. Replace old ones as they consume more energy. New energy saving and eco-friendly models are available today.
4) Plan Your Fuel Use
Fuel decides the cost of living today. It is limited and we have to save it. Moreover, we have to see that it does not pollute the atmosphere. We have to find out alternatives for fuel use. By planning family errands ahead of time we can minimize travel. We can walk to reach nearer places. That makes us move in our couch-potato life.
5) Save Energy by Switching off Appliances Not in Use
Turn off your computer and monitor when they are not in use. This will not affect your computer. Unplug appliances like chargers, cell phones, laptops, toasters, coffee pots, tea kettles, microwaves, etc. since all these consume electricity even when they are off.
6) Insulation Saves more than 30% Energy
Proper insulation in most of our homes can cut our bills by over 30%. Occasionally we should check the insulation levels in our attic, exterior and basement walls, ceilings, floors, crawl spaces, etc.
7) Encourage Recycling
By using recycled materials we reduce heaps of garbage it can reduce price also. By using 100% post-consumer recycled paper, we can prevent rainforests from being further decimated and control deforestation.
8) Encourage Purchase of Local Products
By supporting the businesses that are closer to our home and food grown in our area, we can save us a lot. Many cities have local farmer markets which encourage natural ingredients rather than processed ones. We can get fresh, healthier commodities from our local market. This can make our relationships also greener. Bulk purchase is another good idea for our greener life.
9) A Home Garden can Make you Greener in Many Ways
A home garden with improvised materials available can provide us fresh vegetables and fruits, making us healthy. Empty pots, tins, plastic containers, etc. can be used for this purpose. It beautifies our surrounding and helps us to maintain our health. It can earn some money also.
10) Compost Pit is an Interesting Addition to Green Life
A compost pit or bin in your apartment or backyard is an interesting addition to greener life. It is easy to prepare and helps to keep your surrounding clean. Kitchen waste and waste food materials can be used for this. A homemade compost can feed your garden and house plants or can be donated to your friends or local community garden.
